(by Kyler)
- I went to the farm in the morning. I moved some vehicles around (putting away yet another newly- puchased diesel grain truck), checked on the new pole barn construction and Grandma's, and saw the completion of the barn recovering at the house. Zach was in good shape. I picked up some business things and reading for Dad.
- It worked out well to be on the road from Rensselaer. I had a business call that lasted the entire trip to Indy.
- Before I arrived, Dad had been visited by Dave Shumaker. When I arrived, Tom Fisher was just getting ready to leave.
- No tests had yet been performed, but Kim was in the process of getting blood samples. Dad's use of blood thinner (necessary for his artificial heart valve) kept him from being ready for any type of surgery. He was given plasma(?) to increase his blood's ability to clot.
- The question at hand was whether or not to have a biopsy of the abnormal mass in Dad's brain. Dad seemed sure that he wanted to handle it with nutrition regardless of the outcome, so I didn't see much reason for a biopsy.
- I met Dr. Paynor and we started to talk about the situation when Renel called from the airport. Dr. Paynor decided to return when we could all be part of the discussion.
- Renel, Richard, Jessie, Laird and Coles arrived at the hospital around 3:00. (I think I have adventures traveling with four dogs...)
- Dr. Paynor later met with all of us and explained the situation. I learned that the scan done in Rensselaer was a "CT" scan - not the same as the MRI performed at Methodist. (Fortunately it was "head trauma Tuesday" at Rensselaer and they had the mobile CT scanner there.) Both scans quite clearly showed what is almost definitely a tumor (not a blood clot).
- Even before Dr. Payner arrived, Dad had decided to go ahead with the biopsy. Although it's what I wanted, too, I don't like him changing his mind simply because everyone disagrees with him.
- Because his decision came late in the day, the biopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
- In preparation for surgery today, Dad hadn't eaten all day. He was hungry as I left and dinner was served.
- We think that Misha is coming tomorrow.
