Here are the pins that are “in” with the sailors “in the know.” No cotter keys required. No taping. There are three styles, “D”, “M”, &“R”. The clean design prevents dislodging accidentally or fouling lines. Type “D” – “Detent”: Allows for one-hand release – just a quick pull. This type is used for applications requiring quick assembly and disassembly. Spring-loaded balls are staked in, exerting sufficient pressure to eliminate accidental release. Types “M” and “R” are both considered deluxe styling and are positive locking. These also allow for one-hand release – but with these just push the button, then pull. There’s no faster operating locking pin or safer pin. The unique Ball-Loc action means it cannot dislodge accidentally, even under severe tension. All three types of pins are non-corrosive, aircraft quality stainless steel (300 series stainless steel). “Grip Length” is the distance from the shoulder (the ring on “D” style) to the locking ball bearings.
