Re: Framing of New York Times content
Dear Mr. Laird:
We are sending this letter to you because you are listed as the
Administrative contact for LAIRDS. ORG. A framed link to our site has been
found
at:
http://lairds.org/Kyler/interfaces/NYTimes.cgi/http://www.nytimes.com/yr/mo/day/
science/
Framing content in such a manner as to make it appear to be published
on your site is considered copyright infringement. Please be aware that
all materials that are published in The New York Times or on The New York
Times on the Web are protected under United States copyright laws and
cannot be reproduced, displayed or distributed without the prior written
permission of The New York Times Company. The Times takes infringements
very seriously and vigorously protects its proprietary interests.
We therefore must require that you immediately repair or delete all
unapproved links to Times material from your site and cease and desist
from any other unauthorized uses of our protected materials. The link
will be considered repaired if the content opens within a window which
clearly lists The New York Times on the Web address within the location bar.
Please let us hear from you within five days of receipt of this letter
that you have complied with the foregoing.
Very truly yours,
Hilda Schwartz

Mr. Laird,
Thank you for quick response to our letter.
The way the link exists currently makes our content appear as if it were
mirrored on your website.
Placing a link from your Web site to The New York Times on the Web means
that you provide a hypertext connection from your location on the Web to
ours, using an HTML command such as:
The New York Times on the Web
The NYT url should be the only one visible in the location bar. Also, many
of the links are broken and reach this message
"Page Not Found The page you've requested does not exist at this address."
Your assistance with this matter will be greatly appreciated.
/hs
